Through Private Sessions:
Called Functional Synthesis℠ (FS), these are individual one-on-one sessions. The Anat Baniel Method (ABM) certified practitioner customizes the sessions to the unique needs and goals of each client. The comfort and skill level of each client is respected at all times. You will not be judged. You will not be asked to do something you cannot do. We welcome folks of all skill and fitness levels. Really. Traditionally, "clients" are called "students" because the purpose of the sessions is to bring about transformation through experiential learning. Students are fully clothed at all times. We use a low padded table on which the student lies or sits, depending on the lesson and comfort needs of the student. During a lesson, we use gentle and precise touch to help you feel what you are already doing--perhaps tightening your shoulders habitually at the computer or stiffening your posture due to pain. And then very gently, we explore new possibilities of movement.
The first step is to schedule a Consultation where you will gain an understanding of what our approach is, and we can better understand your situation. After the consultation, we will give you our recommendation for how best to proceed. How you can get the benefits you want for both your body and your life.
Because our work is based on brain plasticity--the capacity of our body, mind, and spirit to learn new, more optimal patterns of movement and behavior no matter the injury, fitness level, or age--you will likely experience a profound feeling of comfort and relaxation. But also strength and vitality. The best part? Because your brain is designed to look for optimal function, you will not have to always be remembering the "right" way to lift things, or the "correct" way to sit. Your brain will choose the optimal way for you at any given moment. Of course, as with most things of value, the more practice you have with the work, the better you'll be at this new skill. FS lessons are done with children as young as a few days old to older folks well into their 90's. Private lessons last approximately one hour. While many people do private lessons because of a specific problem, many come to prevent injury improve their performance, and to simply feel and move as good as possible in their daily lives.
While most of private sessions are done at our office, we also offer:
Through group movement classes:
Called Transformational Movement Lessons℠ (TML), we verbally guide students through a series of exploratory movements that focus on specific functions and movement skills. There are hundreds of different movement lessons that focus on different functions and movement skills. Rather than "getting the movement right," our focus is on brain change and growth leading to rapid increases in flexibility, strength, and skill levels--and a more strong and vital you. Often when movement improves, pain diminishes. Your sense of health, balance, and well-being improves. At Holistic Healing we have special focus classes, as well as classes organized by groups or friends or co-workers on topics that are relevant to them (i.e. improving work habits, being able to garden again, eliminating shoulder pain at work, real relaxation, improving our golf swing, taking care of ourselves as caregivers, etc.). While a lot of people do come to classes because they are experiencing some problem like stress or back pain, many come because its an hour a week just for them--their own time to renew and re-connect with themselves.
While most group classes are done at our office, we also offer:
Workshops: Typically 3-hour intensives, with a limited enrollment, these workshops offer a way for time-strapped clients to focus on a given problem--like relieving back pain or being as healthy as possible during pregnancy, breathing exercises for calmer birthing, dynamic ergonomics at work.
On-Site Workplace Health Workshops: Usually a series of classes or a workshop given at the workplace, focused on worker health. Specific topic based on what the company/workers feel is most relevant
