Self-care is learned, intentional, and continuous: Most of us would probably say we do a pretty good job at taking care of ourselves. Until we look deeper and ask ourselves honestly: Do we care for ourselves as we do our children, grandchildren, spouses, partners, or even friends? Many of us--female and male--are keepers of the home yet put ourselves last when it comes to the "me time" that sustains us.
A pastor friend once used the image of: why do airlines tell parents to put on their oxygen masks, before their children? Because YOU must ensure your own care and safety first--so you can be there for your child.
It's not either/or, it's about balance: We tend to think that putting ourselves first--even one evening a week--means that we are selfish. We feel guilty.. There are seven days in a week. Don't you deserve one of those to keep yourself feeling as healthy, flexible, and balanced as possible?
Try a new approach to scheduling: Our Feldenkrais mentor, has us schedule 3 hours of time for ourselves each week--to do whatever makes our soul sing. FIRST, before any family or business obligations. What a radical concept! That at first was met with disbelief. But, we trusted her, and when we put this into practice, guess what? Our families are happier. Our lives feel less frenzied. We have much more energy, patience, and focus.
Why 2-hour classes?: Rather than a "drop-in" class with random lessons, we prefer to do a focused series. The extended class time ensures that we can add more value and benefit for you. The extra time will allow us to teach techniques and mini-lessons for you to do at home or work. We will be able to provide support materials that will embed the benefits more deeply. You will have time to shift gears from a more meditative Feldenkrais vibe to the demands of home life.
Why 10 classes?: The class is a 10-week series because it takes a focused, continuous process to produce sustained benefits and personal transformation.. To develop the level of personal awareness to listen to your body and the skills to generate meaningful action. Each class session will have a separate theme that will help you discover, awaken, and use your true healer within.
Invest in your health: Consider this an investment in your health and well-being. When clients say they don't have enough money--while sometimes that is true--often it is about priorities. Without judgment, we help them explore where they could discover options. For example, does your family need the latest technology upgrades this year? Is there something you can sell? Do your children need to be involved in so many athletic, martial arts, and dance classes, while you "don't have the money" to take a class? Does the family need satellite TV this year, or could that pay for a series of private sessions, workshops, or classes for you?
After the class, you'll be in a different, better place: Take the 10-week class. We suggest thinking in terms of "Can I do this for the next 3-4 months?" "Can I take Maggie and Ned's recommendation for me over the next few months?" Then, you will be in a very different place after the class series is finished. As your body gets more flexible--an interesting thing happens. Your thinking gets more flexible. Your daily life gets more flexible. Your life has more breathing room, so you can see more options. Most folks decide to continue to stay engaged with regular private sessions, workshops, and/or classes. We will help you to evaluate what is the best course of action for you to take after the class.
